The art of backstrap has been practiced since the time of the ancient Maya. Even now, backstrap weaving is still a part of the daily lives of Mayan women. The ancient craft is used to weave fabric for clothes, but most importantly, it is used to created the traditional dress of Mayan women, known as a huipil. It takes such patience, discipline and training. By sourcing these vintage huipiles, families and communities are strengthened and it allows women to  contribute financially to their families.
