This bag has the dreamiest tones of neutral pinks and creams.  The 19” L x 15” H x 6” W Size makes it the perfect size for a Baby Bag or Weekend Travel Bag.

The vintage huipil from Chichicastenango, Guatemala was woven by women artisans on a backstrap loom.  This form of weaving dates back centuries and is rich with culture and history for the Maya people.  The huipil, pronounced "wee-peel" is the traditional blouse worn by Maya women.  The huipil is upcycled into this gorgeous bag by a leather artisan.

The entire bag is handmade, only using a machine to sew the textile and leather together to form the purse.  The interior is made with Corte, which is a foot-loomed fabric that is traditionally used for a woman's skirt. This bag was made in a family workshop in Chichicastenango. providing a steady income for a young mother and her family.

The leather used in this bag is very lightweight, called Xela leather, which is important in the larger bags. Depending on the type of leather used, it can add a pound to a pound and a half to the weight of the empty bag.

The bag includes removable straps that will convert the bag into a shoulder bag or backpack, depending on how you choose to use it.

Establishing relationships with women in Guatemala eliminates the "middle-man" allowing for fair wages and working conditions, but just as important--genuine relationships and getting to know the artisans and their families.
