Huipil and Leather Nebaj Crossbody “ La Coqueta”
This bag is absolutely one of our favorites! It is fun and flirty which is why we called it “La Coqueta”.
The outer zipper provides a wide-opening for easy access in and out of the bag.
Measures: 11” Long x 7.5” H x 2” W
The huipil is made in Nebaj, which is an Ixl speaking village in the Department of Quiche.
“The Nebaj costume is one of the most dramatic of all Guatemalan daily costumes. Each aspect of it commands attention, from the twisted and wrapped headdress and the white huipil with bold purple, orange green and blue brocaded bird, animal and human motifs, to the red wrapped skirt, stiff multicolored diamond brocaded sash and large striped shawl.” (Altman and West, Threads of Identity, Fowler Museum, pp. 108-109)
This bag is made with Xela Leather and luxury Corte in the interior.
With a side pocket, a zippered pocket, key fob and slots for your credit cards, this bag is as functional as it is beautiful.
Adjustable shoulder strap can be worn over the shoulder or as a crossbody.
Made in collaboration with an artisan family in Antigua, Guatemala from a small workshop, providing steady work and fair wages.
