The Four Directions have significant meaning in many cultures and faiths. In the ancient Mayan world, great ceremonies were held for what can also be know as the Four Cardinal Points. Interestingly, East and West are considered more significant than North and South.
This newly woven huipil was made by weavers in rural Guatemala and sold to a family of bag makers in Chichicastenango. The leather used in this bag is soft and luxurious and made in Quetzaltenango, nicknamed by locals as Xela. Prounounced "She-lah", Xela leather is considered one of the finest in Guatemala.
The interior is lined in gorgeous Corte (the same material used to make the traditional Skirt worn by Mayan women). Zipper pocket and two side pockets are trimmed in Xela leather.
Hidden zipper pockets are in front and back.
